History

The history of Cuban rum dates back to the middle of the 19th century when, following the development of sugar cane production, the first distilleries were created.  Located on the best “terroir”, in the central part of the island, San Lino was the first one in Cuba and still remains a strong symbol of Cuban rum heritage. Just like for many other spirits such as whisky or cognac, “terroir” is of major importance to rum. The Cuban “terroir”, made up of fertile soils and a tropical climate, is ideal for the production of quality sugar cane and allows rum to quickly age and reach complexity. Cuba has always been distinctive from other Caribbean rums by its light and delicate style. Uniqueness that came from a request from the Spanish Crown, which preferred its spirits delicate in flavor. This is how Cuban rum pioneered the Spanish style, now widely present in Spanish-speaking countries.  San Lino, produced under the supervision of César Augusto Marti, our Maestro Ronero, is a tribute to the Cuban “terroir”and tradition.
